Charlamagne's was created from a long-time passion to bring a social experience of food, drink, and fun to Augusta's historic downtown. We offer live entertainment along with a great selection of beer, wine, cocktails, and great food.

welcome to Carlamagnes - "The Crown of Downtown"Located in downtown Augusta, Charlamagne’s has an upscale, cosmopolitan
feel and offers a relaxing place to enjoy good food, wine and spirits, live entertainment - a warm and welcoming atmosphere to share with friends. 

Our goal for Charlamagne’s is to be a home away from home - a place where one can listen to music, watch a game, laugh, meet old friends and make new ones.

Charlamagne’s exposed brick wall shows the character of the 125-year-old building, while the boldness of its polished cement bar and subtleness of hung Tiffany lamps shows a uniqueness not found anywhere in Central Maine.  

The letter “C” from Chernowsky’s department store is still engraved in the beautiful stone tile on the ground at the front door.  This played a major part in choosing the name Charlamagne’s.

I was born and raised in Augusta and remember very well the bustle of Water Street when I was a child.  My parents have told me countless stories about
this city in their day, when downtown Augusta was a thriving business and entertainment community. I am honored to have a proactive part in breathing life back into downtown, and I hope that the contribution of Charlamagne’s will help do just that.

White Wines

William Hill – Chardonnay, Napa Valley, California

This wine offers aromas and flavors of ripe tree fruit, underscored by hints of brown spice, citrus and tropical fruit. Hailing mostly from Sonoma and Mendocino, with a touch of fruit from Napa, this well-integrated wine has excellent acidity and a creamy mouthfeel.

Murphy-Goode Sauvignon Blanc, Sonoma, California

Bright citrus and lush tropical fruit aromas. Flavors of white peach and honeydew. What’s not to love about this versatile Sauvignon Blanc, with its hint of Sémillon for floral notes and its touch of oak for that smoky, intriguing “fume” personality. 

Terre da Vino, Moscato, Italy

Color - Light gold with green edges Bouquet - Ge nerous and complex, richly aromatic with honey and candied fruit Taste - Full-bodied and appealingly sweet, with a supple, delicate structure

Heinz Eifel 'Shine" Riesling, Germany

This riesling is made from late-Hhrvested Riesling grapes in the middle Mosel Valley of Germany. These grapes hang into late Autumn and ripen such that they produce a rich, full-bodied white wine. This is an elegant Riesling that offers a palate of different stone and tree fruit notes such as peach and apricot. It is luscious and full-bodied with a long and fresh finish.

Red Wines

Cousiño Macul – Cabernet Sauvignon, Italy

An intense deep ruby red color, clear and bright, the 2010 vintage presents itself with a marked bouquet of ripe berries typical of the Maipo valley. The aromas then give way to mature plums and spice. In mouth, it is fresh, with good acidity and firm, velvety tannins and light notes of black fruits, typical of the variety.

Bridlewood – Pinot Noir, Santa Inez, California

Our Monterey County Pinot Noir displays lush floral aromas that extend to the palate and combine with dark fruit flavors of raspberry and dark cherry with hints of caramel and toffee. This wine has a complex structure that is framed by floral and black pepper notes, creating an elegant mouthfeel and lingering finish.

Tilia – Malbec, Argentina

Aromas of black cherries and plums are accompanied by notes of violets and vanilla. On the palate the wine is rich and full-bodied with flavors of juicy blackberries, cranberries, and black currants abound, followed by notes of vanilla and sweet spice.

Edna Valley - Merlot, San Luis Obispo, California

This merlot opens with aromas of cocoa powder, anise and black cherry, complemented by hints of leather and humidor. Fine tannins and a bright acidity create a rich, balanced mouthfeel.

Pomegranate Splash

Ashley's creation! Three Olives Pomegranate, tonic water and a drizzle of pomegranate syrup served over ice in a low ball glass with a limed rim. A favorite!

The Survivor

Tina conjured up this pink cosmo in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness.
A delicious blend of X-Rated liqueur, Absolut and cranberry juice, topped with a splash of Sprite. Served in a chilled glass. Delicious!

Fresh Peach

Nickole's reinvented version of an Old Fashioned! Fresh mint leaves and peach syrup muddled with a sugar cube and bitters. Shaken with Makers Mark whiskey and served over ice with a mint leaf garnish.

Blood Orange Margarita

Hornitos Reposada tequila, simple syrup, fresh blood orange juice and a touch of sour mix. Served with a salted rim and garnished with a fruit wedge. Ole!

Cucumber Cooler

Fresh cucumber, watermelon syrup and lime muddled and shaken with Hendrick's gin. Served over ice in a low ball glass with a cucumber slice. Cool and flavorful!

Spring Breeze

Midori, Orange Stoki, Triple Sec and sour mix. Garnished with orange and served in a chilled cosmo glass. Refreshingly sweet!

Cider Smash

Warm apple cider mixed with our famous, homemade apple pie moonshine. Garnished with a cinnamon stick.
Guaranteed to warm you up!

Salted Caramel Martini

Caramel vodka mixed with Rum Chata chilled and strained into a glass rimmed with sea salt and caramel sauce. Rich and decadent.

Downtown Sunrise

Created by Tina, named by Stacy (of Stacy's Hallmark), this is the official drink of the first Downtown Augusta "Cash Mob". Orange Stoli, Absolut Vanilla, Cointreau, orange juice and cranberry juice. Served in a sugared rim glass and garnished with an orange slice. Tastes like a creamsicle!

Rum Bucket

Cruzan rum flavors of coconut, pineapple, citrus and banana mixed with orange, cranberry and pineapple juices, a drizzle of grenadine and garnished with orange and cherry to finish it off. Served in a 32oz bucket!

Fish Bowl

Pinnacle Rainbow Sherbert, Pinnacle Pineapple, Hypnotq Liqueur and Blue Curacao mixed with sour mix, pineapple juice and Sprite. Served in a 32oz fish bowl complete with gummy fish! Fun and yummy!

Rum Bucket

Cruzan rum flavors of coconut, pineapple, citrus and banana mixed with orange, cranberry and pineapple juices, a drizzle of grenadine and garnished with orange and cherry to finish it off.  Served in a 32oz bucket!  Guaranteed to make you think of the islands!

Crimson Leaf

Elegant and delicious. A mix of Crown Royal, apple schnapps, and cranberry juice topped with spiked apple cider. Served in a martini glass with a tart apple slice.

What's Going Ona calendar of events


Tuesday night is an early night of music where we have your favorite local artists entertaining you from 6:00-8:00.  All are welcome to come down and show your support while you enjoy the food, drink and atmosphere of Charlamagne's.

Wednesday Night is Open Mic Night hosted by the one and only Andrew Truman.  Everyone loves a great open mic and you are sure to have a fun time with old friends and make new ones.  A guaranteed fabulous night!

Thursday Night is Trivia Night.  Come play and we promise you will walk away with more knowledge and a smile... and maybe the evening's winning score!  It's always fun on Trivia Night!

John Polhemus


John lives in Whitefield with his wife Mercy and 2 large dogs.  He has been making pictures with a camera for more than 40 years and has recently been able to delve deeper into the older processes from the 19th century. 

Abstract images, children, the human figure  are all images that he likes to photograph.  "If I can have someone look at one of my images, then take a second look, I feel that I have been successful" 


"Making fine art images that someone would like to put into their home is a wonderful compliment to me."
